Sabine River
The Sabine River begins in Northeast
Texas and flows into the
Gulf of Mexico. The largest city on the river is the city of
Longview, Texas. It also serves as a state line boundary between Texas and
Louisiana.
During the American Civil War on September 8, 1863, the Second Battle of Sabine Pass was fought at the mouth of the Sabine. In the battle, a small Confederate force thwarted a Union invasion of Texas.
