Super Mario RPG
Super Mario RPG is the last Mario game ever made for the
Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and the last Squaresoft-produced game until 2003, with the debut of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the
Nintendo GameCube. It's a spoof of
Chrono Trigger and the
Final Fantasy-series with a story based on the Mario universe. Super Mario RPG contains a musical reference to Final Fantasy, that is when fighting Culex in Monstro Town. The boss battle theme of Final Fantasy IV and the Final Fantasy prelude and victory themes were reused in Super Mario RPG. Also, Link and Samus made cameo appearances in the game.
The music was composed by Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu, and Yoko Shimomura.
In this game an extraterrestrial named Smithy takes over Mario's world. In order to stop him Mario and his friends have to find seven star pieces. Members of Mario's team include:
Subplots include helping Mallow find his parents, finding Princess Peach, and helping King Bowser get his keep back. This is the only game where Mario and Bowser are on the same side.
