Vinayak Damodar Savarkar
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (
1883-
1966) was a
Hindu nationalist leader whose book,
Hindutva, gave its name to the modern Hindu nationalist movement. There is some evidence that in pursuit of his nationalist goals Savarkar was involved in the
assassination of
Mahatma Gandhi.
His other literary works in Marathi include "Kamala", "Mazi Janmathep", amongst others. He is also the author of poems like "Sagara pran talmalala", and "Jayostute", arguably the most moving, inspiring and patriotic work in Marathi literature.
